Christmas Time is Here!

As we all know, Christmas is coming closer and closer. I was just thinking of some traditions my family likes to do around Christmas time.
When I was little, I remember having Christmas parties with a bunch of families from our church ward. It was sometime before Christmas and we all would bundle up and pack in the vans and drive around town looking at christmas lights. The christmas music would be blasting in the cars and we would caravan around, sometimes 4-5 vans in a row, to look at lights. And what every caravan needs is Chinese fire drills!!! It didn't matter what van you went into either. The parents would all jump out, and the kids would all hurry to file out of the back seats and run around the cars yelling! So much fun!! We would then go back to someone's house for drinks, treats and games.
After awhile it changed to just one family and my own. We would gather together and make treat plates and deliver them to a bunch of people in the ward and sing them christmas carols. We did this for years. Most of us kids are now out of the house and the married ones aren't at home every christmas. But we still have those fun memories of caroling to those we love and singing with great friends.
Another tradition my family used to do was that all the kids would get up in the morning and deliver the newspapers together and then when we got back we would open presents. I don't remember how long this one lasted, but I do know that when the paper route became mine, no one else wanted to get up and help me christmas morning, haha.
I love Christmas time! I can't wait to get home and spend a wonderful break with my family and fiance!!!!

Word of the Blog: "Carols." A song, especially of joy!! I would say that Christmas carols are very joyful! Especially since they praise the birth and life of our Savior and older brother Jesus Christ!!

Kyle and I are engaged! :D

So...as most of you know already, Kyle and I are engaged!!! We plan to get married in May 13, 2011 at the Portland, Oregon Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Kyle and I had been talking about getting married for a while, so I was able to bug him about when he was proposing for a while. haha Then he gave away that he had the ring one of those times, which meant I had to bug him even more and ask him if I could see it. :) He never told me anything, it was just fun to keep asking. In return he would bug me every once in a while about what I got him for his birthday, so it wasn't all one sided!
His birthday was on December 1st, Wednesday, and his older sister bought him tickets to an a capella concert in Seattle. (Straight No Chaser, check em out!) He really wanted me to go so we checked out the prices of flights and it was pretty cheap to fly into Seattle and out of Spokane so I could go home for the weekend. So we bought the tickets.
By the time I went to Seattle I had already been bugging him about seeing the ring for a few days. I had a feeling he was going to propose that weekend but I really had no idea when he was planning on it.
I got into Seattle, he picked me up from the airport and we drove into downtown. After taking a couple wrong turns we had a nice little drive and we made it to the Seattle Center, haha. We walked around the center and saw what was there, got some food, and just chilled eating and spending time together before the concert at 7:30. He kept looking at me a certain way and smiling, and I'd ask what he was smiling about and he'd say "you'll see" or "you" or I bet whatever else he could think of. He would also just look at me for a minute, say I love you, and then give me a hug or kiss too. By the time the concert started I was wondering if something was up or if he was just oober glad to see me like I was, haha.
The concert was really good and when it was done we started walking to the car to get ready and head home. We walked past the space needle again and he saw there were tour elevators still going up to the observation floor. I asked him if he wanted to go up, because earlier had found that neither of us had been up the space needle, and he didn't say anything so we kept walking to the car. When we got to the car he realized it was only like 9:45 and so talked about going up the space needle again. I asked him again if he wanted to go, he said yes, and so I said "then let's go!" We had walked all the way back to the car for him to decide he actually wanted to go to the space needle. He said he wanted to grab his hat, but wouldn't let me close by the car while he was doing it. I thought it was weird. I wasn't thinking about him proposing by this time because I was starting to get tired and was kinda bugged he didn't make a decision until we got to the car, haha. (Sorry honey! It's the truth!)
So we walked over to the space needle, paid for the tickets and went up the elevator. We went straight out to the observation loop/deck, whatever it's called, and started looking around at beautiful Seattle at night time!
We were just walking around slowly, looking at the sights and talking about whatever. And at one point we were going to start walking again and he said, "So..." and I felt him let me go, so I turned around as he bended down on one knee and then he asked me to marry him!! My hands came up to my mouth, I teared up a bit but didn't let it come out. I said 'Yes' and smiled all huge and pulled him up to give him a kiss. Then he put the ring on my finger and it's beautiful!
We kept walking around the loop, I had my arms around him so tight the rest of the night! We went inside after that and I asked him about "the quiz." Every guy that has come to ask my father for permission has had to take "the quiz." It is individualized to every girl and they have to pass or else! haha, actually, I don't know what would happen if they failed. I had my arms around him as we were talking and this lady came out of the elevator and was looking at us for a little bit. I noticed her out of the corner out of my eye and then she stepped forward and asked if we were getting married. I told her Kyle had just proposed and she said she could tell and just had to ask. We walked around the inside once and then got on the elevator to go down with this lady and her family. She proceeded to tell the guide and her family we were engaged and showed off my ring to everyone, haha. It was awesome.
We walked back to the car and he said he had planned to ask me the next day with a scavenger hunt of special places and propose to me at the end, but we had been having such a great time together he felt like he wanted to ask in Seattle that night and so he did!!!
We suprised my parents who he told it was going to happen on Friday and we got to start telling everyone we were engaged.
We than had an awesome weekend together, a crazy trip to Spokane for my flight back to Provo, which would need it's own post, and now we have a great life together to look forward too!
I love you Kyle!

Kyle's Story: I saw her first at the airport, she was so excited! We drove downtown, we got a little lost but it was ok, "it was an adventure" according to Christine, but who can say if it was really an adventure or not. After we found a place to park we wandered around the Seattle Center for a while. That was the first time I thought about it. We had some decent dinner, (back to me, I didn't think it was that good. lol) Christine was getting really sleepy. I had thought about doing it when we were standing in front of the water fountain. It was a really good spot. I couldn't do it there because I didn't have the ring on me.
Then we went to the concert. Christine was jammin' out to the music, it seemed to wake her right up. The concert got over and I thought we were going to get out around 11:30 but we got out at like 9:30, 9:45. It was shortly after the concert when I looked up at the Space Needle that I decided I wanted to do it there. I just had to decide how to get you up there without you getting all suspicious AND get down to the car to get the ring.
By the time we got back to the car I came up with my "hat distraction". It was a good play on my part. I got the ring out with Christine non-the-wiser. And then we went up to the Space Needle and we were wandering around. Finally found a spot where it was just the two of us, no one else around, got down on one knee and she was all sorts of surprised. And that's about the whole story.

We got engaged on December 2, 2010 on the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington!!
Pictures to come soon :)

Shortbread Goodness

Today I had cleaning checks. "What does this have anything to do with shortbread?" you may ask. Well, after checking the cleanest apartment on the block they proceeded to leave a HUGE TIN OF THE HOLIDAY SHORTBREAD COOKIES!! AND I MEAN HUGE!!! I am really excited. :) These cookies are the best. The pretzel ones with the sugar on em, the pretty circle ones... and I did start out loving them. :)
I remember having them around the holidays, every once in a while, growing up. And then in high school my french teacher asked me to make a batch of some cookies she had a recipe for. I didn't know what kind of cookie 'shortbread' referred to. All I know is that I made a small batch of cookies that was all made out of butter and flour, and maybe a couple other things. I was grossed out. It was only then, after I told her I thought they tasted bad, that she told me what kind of cookies they were and that she thought they tasted amazing. I hadn't had shortbread cookies in a long time at that point so I didn't remember what they were supposed to taste like.
I think today was the first time I have had shortbread cookies since that event. And the tin is so HUGE!!! I am happy to get my love of shortbread cookies back and to be able to split the tin only 4 ways with my roomies instead of 6. hahaha :)
Happy Holidays!!!!

Cheez it's good!

One never really appreciates the value of cheese until you don't have any. I went 4 days without a block of cheese this week and it was soooo disappointing!! "What should I make for dinner tonight? Um...grilled cheese! wait...I HAVE NO CHEESE!" So I think some more about something I could have. "I should make burritos with refried beans and tomatoes and....STINKER! I HAVE NO CHEESE!!!" :( I keep thinking and thought of taco salad. "Awesome! All I need is chips which I have, salad which I have, chili which I opened yesterday, and some shredded....CHEESE!!" and then I am sad once again. Rachel has since brought me some cheese which is wonderful. :)
Now I can enjoy all the wonderful foods I love with cheese!!!

Highlights of Summer

This summer came to an end quite quickly. I was working and hanging out with friends and then closed my summer with a trip home, surprising Kyle a few days early, and a road trip to Sacramento and the Northern California Beach with some friends!! Here are a few of the highlights that I got pictures of to remember it by!

If you look closely you can see my marvelous 'End-of-the-summer-art'. One Sunday I just decided that I wanted to put a side-walk chalk mural on the side of the cement wall in front of my apartment. I covered every inch!!!

One bright summer day we had the door open to my apartment. We were just chillin, everyone doing their own thing when we saw this little guy run into our apartment from outside. He is a little cutie!! He ran into the kitchen and so my friend and I cornered him and I caught him in this pink cup. I admired how small and adorable he was, took a picture, and then put him outside down the street aways. He is so cute!!

This is my Bishop's Challenger!!! Don't be fooled at first glance thinking it's a GT like I did!!! Story: I moved into my new ward in May, and during ward prayer every week I see this amazing car on the street. "Who's sweet car is that???" I ask, thinking it's a GT Mustang, and every week I wish that I could have a ride. I come to find out this car is my bishop's!!!! I was so excited, but I was so scared to ask him. I go for 3 months, chickening out and not feeling like I could ask him for a ride. August comes, and I put "a ride in my bishop's car" on my birthday list to my parents. It's almost the week for me to go home and my FHE group goes to the bishop's house for FHE! "This is my chance!!" I thought. FHE is awesome, and way fun, and so afterward when everyone is eating ice cream and chatting I ask my bishop for a ride in his car!!!! He immediately says yes, so I feel dumb for waiting so long. Later in the week I was talking to a guy in my ward at work about my ride, and he says that the bishop has a Challenger, not a GT Mustang. I wasn't crushed, but I was way bummed. Here I had been telling my little brother I got a ride in a GT and it turned out not to be one. The sad part...I still haven't got a ride in a GT Mustang. The cool part...I still got a ride in a pretty sweet car, it went really fast. :)

One of the big events of my summer is dying my hair!!! I had been thinking about it all summer and wanted to temporarily get a darker color and some red. When I went home for my birthday I had scheduled an appointment with my hair dresser and was so excited to go!! I got a semi-permanent with a darker blonde and mahogany mix, I believe. It looked so good!! Hopefully you can see it a bit in this picture. She didn't color all of my hair, so I still had layers of color and my normal blonde in there too. I was very happy and I was glad that it turned out so good!!!

Being at home I got to go to church with my family, celebrate my birthday, and spend time with Kyle. I had an excursion to Sunnyside with my family to get our teeth cleaned and to see Grandma. Brother Stephens was awesome and let me drive him and Kyle around for a bit in his new convertible on my birthday!! My mom has that picture so it's not here. Kyle and I watched the meteor shower, that sadly wasn't too exciting this year and went to a BBQ with his karate group.

Sacramento and the beach was way fun, but a long drive haha. It was fun to get away and drive through beautiful parts of California. We drove down to San Francisco for a day too and we drove over the Golden Gate Bridge!!!! Awesome!! We hung out with my roommates aunt and then walked around the pier and got ice cream at Ghirardelli's (I hope I spelled that right). It was so much fun and a great way to end the summer.

School started the next week, but that's another story hahaha

One month of fun done...time to start the next one!!

I meant to write a post when the semester got over but then I just got too busy! I have had so much going on up till now. So here is me catching up...
Spring term ended and I was very glad that it did! My grades came out great and so did my tailoring project!

This is the wool jacket that I made. It is tailored for me, though my roommate asks me why I never took her measurements to make sure it would fit her right. haha I am glad to put it in the back of my closet until it gets cold again, because after working on the same project, every day, 4-8 hours a day...you need a break!!
I started working at the all so famous Creamery on Ninth East again the week of finals. I returned to one of my old positions as an AM Receiving Supervisor. I'm still goin strong, lovin the early mornings and getting to take a nap after everyonce in a while. haha
Kyle drove down on June 20th to spend some time with his sister in Ogden and to come visit me in Provo! He stayed until the 30th and so we had lots of fun!! We went for a walk in the one of the many parks of Provo, watched world cup, went to the Manti Pageant, BQQ'd, ate muddy buddies, went for picnics and swimming, walked around temple square, and went to see the animals at the Hogle Zoo!! There was a new baby elephant named Zuri we got to see, and cougars, monkeys, prairie dogs, penguins, everything!!! It was awesome.
We rented "This Is It", the Michael Jackson movie, and it was way good! Lots of sweet dancing and MJ music if you haven't seen it yet! I also saw G.I. Joe for the first time. We had a bonfire one night with my roommates Vanessa and friend Ben. They brought foil dinners and then we ate smores and toasted marshmallows. So good!!!
On one of the days I gave Kyle a tour of campus and we went to the MOA and looked at the "Life of Christ" exhibit that is there currently, went to the cooking and sewing labs and saw Sis. Smith (one of the professors) for the first time since winter got over. On another afternoon we went on a "great mountain dew hunt" looking for the 3 flavors that they put out for people to taste and vote on. We found two of them, but the last one was not to be found anywhere. :( We also played black light mini golf!! It was awesome... I glowed. hahaha :)

A couple days after Kyle left I flew out to Dayton, Ohio to visit Tracie and her family. I met my parents and Blake there. We went to the Air Force Museum which had really cool planes and a lot of them!! Tracie and Brent are fixing up a house there in Dayton to move into soon so we helped out a little bit with that too.
We drove out to Nauvoo for a couple days. We stayed with Aunt Beva and Uncle John, and Uncle Gary, Aunt Katie, Carol and Natalie were there too. We had fun going to all the little musical productions that Aunt Beva, Uncle John and all the other missionaries put on in the buildings by the temple. It was really nice to go to Nauvoo. We saw the Hendricks house, watched the Nauvoo Pageant about the Pioneers in Nauvoo, played a pioneer game, made the little button spin toys, and Aunt Beva gave us all sweet hats that she had made. And I got a necklace that she made too for my trip necklace from Nauvoo!
Mom and Dad and all the older people went through a Nauvoo temple session and the rest of us just got to look on the outside and see how pretty the temple is. When we drove into Nauvoo I found it is a really small town, there's not even a grocery store. haha You're driving kind of parallel to the Mississippi River and the road curves to go inland up the hill and the temple just comes up out of nowhere on the top of the hill, overlooking historic Nauvoo and the river.
The last morning we were there we walked through the little shops and galleries in Nauvoo. There were some really pretty pictures of the area and the temple in some of the stores. Blake and I stopped by the fudge store before we left though. We needed some for the drive!! I got a magnet there that says "Families are like fudge, mostly sweet...with a few nuts!!"
Back in Ohio Blake and Dad built a tower using all the duplos Tracie had. We had to keep Rebekah and William from knocking it down, but when Blake and Dad were done all they wanted to do was build a big tower!
On the Saturday before I came home we made it down to Waynesville, Ohio where we found antiques gallore!!!!! There was a little car show and the whole street was antique shops. We spent a lot more time there than we thought we would, but we saw some pretty sweet stuff! In one of the stores I saw a sign that said "Kids left unattended will be sold!" I took a picture of it.
So that's that! I spent time with my family, spent time with Kyle, saw some really cool stuff, traveled to a few places, became Tracie's bread slave for a couple days, and now I am back in Provo! Life is good, and I still got a lot of it left!

I love free money :)

So at the beginning of winter semester is the time to fill out all the scholarship applications you can get your hands on. I did. There were a couple School of Family Life applications and the BYU regular financial aid applications, which I fill out every year.
Then it comes to the end of the semester when you expect the results of said scholarships. The SFL results keep getting postponed, and the financial aid results are sent out. Graduation weekend I saw an email notifying me of a message in my "financial center". My first thought, "Well, here is my rejection letter again. And it's not even a real letter!" haha I go to my financial center, open the new message, and what does it say... Surprise!!! I get half tuition for fall and winter semesters from BYU!!!! Woohoo!!!! It made my day, it made my parents day...everyone's happy.
The SFL scholarship results still get postponed, and then postponed, and so I figured I didn't get one. Today in the letter that was forwarded from my old apartment, sent back to the School of Family Life and somehow in the hands of my manager who sees my friend who says she'll bring it to me, I get a scholarship for another $1500 for both fall and winter semesters!!!! The Rosemary Borg Summers Scholarship. I can't even type out how excited I was and still am!!!
So from my crazy hard work these last two semesters to get good grades and excel in my classes for my major, I have tuition and books paid for for my last year of school!!!! It's a wonderful feeling. I hope you can share in my excitement!!
I love free money :)

4 Days of School Left!!!!!

Well, my spring term of classes is coming to an end... :) :) I have loved my classes and what I have been learning, but I am ready to have a life outside of the sewing lab. haha I will be going in later today for sew for 5 hours, this in addition to the 16 hours I have already sewn this week. (Maybe I should get paid for my sewing instead of me paying BYU, then I wouldn't need a job!!! haha) And I have 3 tests to take in the next week and I need to finish my tailoring project. I'll post a picture of it when I am done, I'm way excited!!
Next week the fam is coming to Provo and I am so excited!! This also means that I have an extra busy week, but it's worth it.
Only 4 days!!! I think I can, I think I can!!

I Love to See the Temple

(Columbia River Washington Temple)
The temple is a wonderful place!! They are beautiful, peaceful, and I have found that when you go at 5:30 in the morning it is extra quiet inside. :)

Word of the blog: "Peace". Bible Topical Guide; Comfort, Contentment, Order, Silence.
Isaiah 32:17 says, " And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance (fn: happiness, joy) for ever. "

I love my family! I know that through the temple I can live with them for ever.

I'm Famous!!

So today I get home from a long, tiresome, drive-you-crazy kind of school day and I have an email from my FACS Ed. department head, Dr. Moore, wondering if some internet site was okay with me...?? I had no idea what she was talking about so I went to the site and it is a new website for BYU FACS majors to post lesson plans and ideas to share with eachother, and other information that I thought was cool, and guess what the home page picture was...Me!!! In her class last semester I made a pie with my kitchenmates and I was so proud of the deliciously looking pie I finished I had my friend take a picture and send it to me. I put it on facebook and Dr. Moore is awesome, thought it was cute, and fished it off facebook to use on the website!!!

So yeah, I'm famous. If you want my autograph, you probably have my number if you're reading my blog, so give me a call!!! I won't charge too much ;) Maybe just a laundry load or two, haha!

I hope spring is here to stay

The sun was out today and it was wonderful!!! I just hope that the weather is done playing tricks on us and spring has come to stay. I went outside and played volleyball, talked with friends and played catch phrase all in the sun! Good ol' vitamin D...

And I decided that I am going to start doing a "word of the blog". Random, but it sounds like fun to me!

The word of the blog is...Sea Serpent. This came from the game of catchphrase when the guy was giving us the clue Ocean Snake and expected us to figure it out. Haha

Fly pancakes

Well here I go finally starting my blog!!! And to kick it off I have this awesome quote that I got from my friend Jessi today. Enjoy and keep checkin in!!!

"I was making pancakes the other day and a fly flew into the kitchen. And that's when I realized that a spatula is a lot like a fly swatter, and a crushed fly is a lot like a blueberry, and a roommate is a lot like a fly eater."

The FACS of life...well, maybe just my life :)

I am a FACS Ed. Major at Brigham Young University, Provo. Don't be fooled!!! It's spelled 'FACS' not 'facts', haha. It stands for Family and Consumer Science Education and I love it!!!

I started out college trying a couple different majors, Information Systems, Statistics (that's right, I like Stats!), and I found I didn't like them as much as I thought I would. After 3 semesters I wanted to find the right major for me. I looked at every single major description on the BYU site and checked out the descriptions of some of the classes in a few of them. I looked at Home and Family Living and decided to take the first couple courses and a cooking class. It had all the classes in it that I enjoyed as hobbies so why not! Maybe do some minor with it so I could use the information in a nutrition job or out-of-home business.

I am happy to say I found my thing!!! In my 5th semester (beginning of my third year) I declared Home and Family Living as my major and was taking another cooking class, working as a TA in the cooking labs, and getting started in my wonderful major.

A couple weeks into the semester the other TA's were talking with me and told me about FACS Ed. (Family and Consumer Science Ed.). Basically the Home and Family Living major with a teaching degree added on. I thought, well, there's a job! Something I could get out of my major if a home business didn't work out.

So I changed my major to FACS Ed. and have been lovin' it ever since!! I love the professors, the people I work with, the classes I take, and more and more I am so excited and so nervous to be a teacher. And I am also proud to say that I have converted quite a number of BYU students to FACS Ed., the best major in the world. :)

I am going to be a teacher!!!! Sewing, cooking, nutrition, interior design, child development, CTE, teen living, fashion...bring it on!

It's my life, I do what I love. :)
