I am a FACS Ed. Major at Brigham Young University, Provo. Don't be fooled!!! It's spelled 'FACS' not 'facts', haha. It stands for Family and Consumer Science Education and I love it!!!
I started out college trying a couple different majors, Information Systems, Statistics (that's right, I like Stats!), and I found I didn't like them as much as I thought I would. After 3 semesters I wanted to find the right major for me. I looked at every single major description on the BYU site and checked out the descriptions of some of the classes in a few of them. I looked at Home and Family Living and decided to take the first couple courses and a cooking class. It had all the classes in it that I enjoyed as hobbies so why not! Maybe do some minor with it so I could use the information in a nutrition job or out-of-home business.
I am happy to say I found my thing!!! In my 5th semester (beginning of my third year) I declared Home and Family Living as my major and was taking another cooking class, working as a TA in the cooking labs, and getting started in my wonderful major.
A couple weeks into the semester the other TA's were talking with me and told me about FACS Ed. (Family and Consumer Science Ed.). Basically the Home and Family Living major with a teaching degree added on. I thought, well, there's a job! Something I could get out of my major if a home business didn't work out.
So I changed my major to FACS Ed. and have been lovin' it ever since!! I love the professors, the people I work with, the classes I take, and more and more I am so excited and so nervous to be a teacher. And I am also proud to say that I have converted quite a number of BYU students to FACS Ed., the best major in the world. :)
I am going to be a teacher!!!! Sewing, cooking, nutrition, interior design, child development, CTE, teen living, fashion...bring it on!
It's my life, I do what I love. :)
