So...as most of you know already, Kyle and I are engaged!!! We plan to get married in May 13, 2011 at the Portland, Oregon Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Kyle and I had been talking about getting married for a while, so I was able to bug him about when he was proposing for a while. haha Then he gave away that he had the ring one of those times, which meant I had to bug him even more and ask him if I could see it. :) He never told me anything, it was just fun to keep asking. In return he would bug me every once in a while about what I got him for his birthday, so it wasn't all one sided!
His birthday was on December 1st, Wednesday, and his older sister bought him tickets to an a capella concert in Seattle. (Straight No Chaser, check em out!) He really wanted me to go so we checked out the prices of flights and it was pretty cheap to fly into Seattle and out of Spokane so I could go home for the weekend. So we bought the tickets.
By the time I went to Seattle I had already been bugging him about seeing the ring for a few days. I had a feeling he was going to propose that weekend but I really had no idea when he was planning on it.
I got into Seattle, he picked me up from the airport and we drove into downtown. After taking a couple wrong turns we had a nice little drive and we made it to the Seattle Center, haha. We walked around the center and saw what was there, got some food, and just chilled eating and spending time together before the concert at 7:30. He kept looking at me a certain way and smiling, and I'd ask what he was smiling about and he'd say "you'll see" or "you" or I bet whatever else he could think of. He would also just look at me for a minute, say I love you, and then give me a hug or kiss too. By the time the concert started I was wondering if something was up or if he was just oober glad to see me like I was, haha.
The concert was really good and when it was done we started walking to the car to get ready and head home. We walked past the space needle again and he saw there were tour elevators still going up to the observation floor. I asked him if he wanted to go up, because earlier had found that neither of us had been up the space needle, and he didn't say anything so we kept walking to the car. When we got to the car he realized it was only like 9:45 and so talked about going up the space needle again. I asked him again if he wanted to go, he said yes, and so I said "then let's go!" We had walked all the way back to the car for him to decide he actually wanted to go to the space needle. He said he wanted to grab his hat, but wouldn't let me close by the car while he was doing it. I thought it was weird. I wasn't thinking about him proposing by this time because I was starting to get tired and was kinda bugged he didn't make a decision until we got to the car, haha. (Sorry honey! It's the truth!)
So we walked over to the space needle, paid for the tickets and went up the elevator. We went straight out to the observation loop/deck, whatever it's called, and started looking around at beautiful Seattle at night time!
We were just walking around slowly, looking at the sights and talking about whatever. And at one point we were going to start walking again and he said, "So..." and I felt him let me go, so I turned around as he bended down on one knee and then he asked me to marry him!! My hands came up to my mouth, I teared up a bit but didn't let it come out. I said 'Yes' and smiled all huge and pulled him up to give him a kiss. Then he put the ring on my finger and it's beautiful!
We kept walking around the loop, I had my arms around him so tight the rest of the night! We went inside after that and I asked him about "the quiz." Every guy that has come to ask my father for permission has had to take "the quiz." It is individualized to every girl and they have to pass or else! haha, actually, I don't know what would happen if they failed. I had my arms around him as we were talking and this lady came out of the elevator and was looking at us for a little bit. I noticed her out of the corner out of my eye and then she stepped forward and asked if we were getting married. I told her Kyle had just proposed and she said she could tell and just had to ask. We walked around the inside once and then got on the elevator to go down with this lady and her family. She proceeded to tell the guide and her family we were engaged and showed off my ring to everyone, haha. It was awesome.
We walked back to the car and he said he had planned to ask me the next day with a scavenger hunt of special places and propose to me at the end, but we had been having such a great time together he felt like he wanted to ask in Seattle that night and so he did!!!
We suprised my parents who he told it was going to happen on Friday and we got to start telling everyone we were engaged.
We than had an awesome weekend together, a crazy trip to Spokane for my flight back to Provo, which would need it's own post, and now we have a great life together to look forward too!
I love you Kyle!
Kyle's Story: I saw her first at the airport, she was so excited! We drove downtown, we got a little lost but it was ok, "it was an adventure" according to Christine, but who can say if it was really an adventure or not. After we found a place to park we wandered around the Seattle Center for a while. That was the first time I thought about it. We had some decent dinner, (back to me, I didn't think it was that good. lol) Christine was getting really sleepy. I had thought about doing it when we were standing in front of the water fountain. It was a really good spot. I couldn't do it there because I didn't have the ring on me.
Then we went to the concert. Christine was jammin' out to the music, it seemed to wake her right up. The concert got over and I thought we were going to get out around 11:30 but we got out at like 9:30, 9:45. It was shortly after the concert when I looked up at the Space Needle that I decided I wanted to do it there. I just had to decide how to get you up there without you getting all suspicious AND get down to the car to get the ring.
By the time we got back to the car I came up with my "hat distraction". It was a good play on my part. I got the ring out with Christine non-the-wiser. And then we went up to the Space Needle and we were wandering around. Finally found a spot where it was just the two of us, no one else around, got down on one knee and she was all sorts of surprised. And that's about the whole story.
We got engaged on December 2, 2010 on the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington!!
Pictures to come soon :)
Word of the Blog: "Sweet." A beloved person.
